As a member of the Design Faculty, I provide scholarly leadership through teaching and research in Communication Design and Design Studies. I currently focus on Anonymous and Unacknowledged design histories in Canada, design theory, political economy in design, and communication design practices for climate change.

I was responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of the Faculty of Design and Dynamic Media at Emily Carr University, which included leading the faculty in the development and implementation of the faculty vision and strategic plan, facilitating the coordination in the planning and management of curriculum development (ensuring sustainability.

As Design Area Head and, later, Associate Dean of Design, my duties expanded to include operational activities for the area: planning course schedules, overseeing sessional hiring, providing consistency in day-to-day operations, and devising a plan for the area to grow while maintaining our area/subjects of strength.

From 2001 to 2003, I was a faculty team member in the Design Intensive Workshops in this summer program. I lectured on various topics in design, promoted and facilitated group discussions of design topics, and encouraged and critiqued participant’s work in progress. As Guest Program Director of the Print Production Workshop, I lectured and instructed on.

This partnership (with my husband, Stacey) requires my every previously acquired skill. I am involved in obtaining new business, day-to-day administration and working with suppliers, as well as art-directing, designing and producing work for print and web. Clients have included Canada Mortgage & Housing (CMHC), Optimum Insurance, Plenty Clothing Co..

In this collaborative and creative environment, I worked closely with suppliers and clients alike to develop the most effective design solution possible. Along with excellent design and creative skills, accurate production skills, reliable project management, and leadership skills were required in my position. Clients included The Vancouver Opera.
