Bonnie's expertise and passion is in extracting insights from data, whether big or small, to address challenging business problems and growing and mentoring junior data scientists. Most recently, she lead data activities at Chartbeat in NYC, enabling media companies around the world to understand and improve reader engagement. Previously, she led data science teams at Talkspace (www.talkspace.com), a NYC-based startup focused on making behavioral healthcare more affordable, accessible and effective through technology and at Arena (www.arena.io), a hiring analytics startup. Prior to her work as a data science leader, she led research development in AI and Decision Sciences at the T. J. Watson Research Center of IBM in Yorktown Heights, NY, managing a team of ~30 researchers and software engineers focused on developing new machine learning, decision making, and AI algorithms for augmenting human capabilities. She holds 12+ patents based on her research in such areas as software engineering data analysis, workforce management, adaptive sampling, and automated interpretation of statistical modeling results, and is the author of over 60 refereed publications. She is also an elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association. Prior to moving to IBM Research, Bonnie held a tenured faculty position in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark. She currently holds an adjunct position at NYU where she has advised data science projects for the last three years, and has held adjunct or visiting appointments at Rice University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Texas at Austin, Stanford University, and the Los Alamos National Laboratory over the course of her career.Bonnie earned her PhD in Statistics from Columbia University and her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Baylor University.Specialties: Methodological research in mixed data modeling, survival analysis, time series analysis, count data, decision analysis, and business analytics; extensive experience leading analytic product development using Python in AWS environments.
