Bonnie Newman Davis' Bio Bonnie Newman Davis is an award-winning journalist with a demonstrated history of leadership success in the American news industry. Davis also is the author of "Truth Tellers: The Power and Presence of Black Women Journalists Since 1960." (Publication date 2022.) In September 2024, Davis became Editor-at-Large at Charlottesville Tomorrow. Charlottesville Tomorrow is a community-driven, socially conscious news organization that serves its neighbors by connecting them to each other and to the issues that affect them most. From May 2022 – May 2024, Davis served as managing editor of the Richmond Free Press. Her responsibilities included overseeing the production of the Free Press, a Black-owned weekly newspaper.Davis managed the day-to-day operations of the Free Press newsroom, assigned stories to reporters, edited content, wrote articles, took photographs and ensured that deadlines were met. Her strong work ethic and tenacity garnered the Free Press wide recognition, which included more than two dozen Virginia Press Association awards. Prior to the Richmond Free Press, Davis spent nearly 20 years with The Richmond-Times Dispatch (Virginia) and Richmond News Leader (Virginia) as a reporter and editor. She also has worked for newspapers in Louisville, Kentucky, Greensboro and Wilmington, North Carolina and Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as MSNBC’s thegrio.com and BlackAmericaweb.com.
