Randy started his career as a software programmer and moved to system analysis, project management, systems manager, project management consultant, software organizational consultant, and designer of software decision support systems. He is also the developer of a project science and creator of the Organic Software Systems Engineering Approach(OSEA). The OSEA has been submitted to Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) as a new revolutionary and transformational approach to software engineering. He has worked for aerospace companies like Lockheed, Rockwell International, and Aerospace Corporation as well as business firms like Kaiser Permanente and America Honda. Randy was uniquely positioned for his quest of solving the software problem, having synthesized skills, experience, and knowledge in both the software “hard and soft sciences”. He has more than thirty years experience in software engineering, project management, software management, project management consulting and software research and development. He has much experience in software improvement. As a system manager, he participated along with consultants in improving the performance of a large information technology organization. He consulted on projects that identified company-wide business performance metrics, worked with the functional organizations to identify the improvement objectives, metrics need to achieve the functional objectives and software requirements. His foray into the organizational sciences started as a consultant to an organization design group in a very large company that was tasked to support an organizational management improvement imitative.Specialties: Strategic, tactical, and operational project management, software engineer, software organizational and project scientist, software estimating and project specific modeling, software machine and systems theorist, researcher and methodologist, organic software engineering practice, software systems engineering, software concurrent engineering, software quality engineering, and software project design.

Software ScientistInformation Architects Jan 2000 - PresentDeveloped a project science and Organic Software System Approach that replaces the current software perception, paradigm, and traditional software development practices. That is, software engineering must now use system oriented processes and technologies to build software systems. The new processes, methods, tools, techniques, decision-making, rewards, people, and structures are now based upon general systems theory socio-technical systems theory, system technology, system philosophy, and systems biology. Software engineering now requires a more holistic, integrated and relational approach based upon needs of the project whole as well as the needs of the systems elements and their relationship with other systems elements. The activities involved include the development of a: • Software project science • Software paradigm model • Organic Software Systems Engineering Environment • Organic System Concepts • System approach to software engineering • Conceptual Framework • Project system architecture and taxonomy • Quality conceptual framework and taxonomy • Concurrent software engineering approach • Systems engineering approach • Integrated project management • Project design methodology • Functional element management methodology, • Strategic project management methodology • Tactical project management methodology • Distributed team project management methodology • Organic system design • Integrated capability support infrastructure • Project ecosystem • Benefit model

Architect Advanced Project Managment SystemInformation Architects Jan 1997 - Jan 2000Randy two products that are based upon Microsoft Office Technology and Microsoft Project, Insight and Guru. Insight supports estimating, project planning, scheduling, and costing while the tracking system, Guru helps the project team identify out of balance conditions, identify and rank the reason for the out of balance conditions, and make recommendation to resolve the issues before the issue becomes a problem. Insight is an advanced, new generation estimating system. The development of a good project plan remains a key project management activity. The central element of a good project plan is a very accurate forecast of cost, schedule, and resource requirements. Without sufficient resources, a project team cannot meet its commitments. Insight is designed to significantly increase the accuracy of software estimates, increase understanding of development environments, and improve the effectiveness of project management processes. The objective is the achievement of near-zero variance or when final estimates are within three to five percent of original estimates. The approach is to use local history data and advanced estimating tools to achieve near-zero variance. Guru is a management tool that uses models derived from similar history projects for tracking. The same projects used for estimating and planning will be used for risk management and problem solving. The system will establish checkpoints, detect out-of balance conditions, analyze the possible situations, rank the potential problems, and identify a range of solutions. At the designated control points, Guru compares metric values to the baseline values. Abnormal conditions occur when actual values are above or below the normative ranges. If the measure is out of balance, the project manager initiates an investigation. During the investigation, an expert function asks a series of questions. After the questions are answered, the system ranks the probable cause of the problem.
