About Érico Borges

With a strong passion for agriculture, research, and innovation, I graduated in Agronomic Engineering from the Federal University of Uberlândia and earned a Master's in Genetics and Plant Breeding from the Federal University of Lavras. My childhood experiences on my grandparents' farm sparked my deep interest in agriculture, ultimately leading me to pursue a career in this field.Over the past 13 years, I have focused on Seed Research and Development, starting as an intern in the cotton breeding program at Delta Pine for 2.5 years and later leading soybean breeding operations at Syngenta's Center Hub in Uberlândia for 5 years. In this role, I managed various activities including budgeting, personnel management, sowing, crop protection, harvesting for greenhouse and field trials, parental hybridization, nursery production, marker-assisted trait selection, phenotype evaluations, seed production, and lines purification. Additionally, I led the operations for the Trial assembly of the entire breeding network for the central region of Brazil. At the end of 2018, I've received an invitation to take on a new challenge that would take me out of my comfort zone, as it was a role beyond my academic and professional background. In transition to a known area as Automation and Engineering, I've assumed the role of Seeds Processing Automation Lead for LATAM, working across the entire project management chain for automation and robotics projects related to soybean, corn, and sunflower seed processing for Seeds Development. My daily challenges ranged from understanding operational pain-points and challenges, identifying opportunities for improvement and production bottlenecks, prioritizing projects, scouting suppliers and partnerships, managing deliveries and resources, handing over ownership, and monitoring project sustainability.Fast forward to October 2023, I've received a new invitation to go further beyond my comfort zone,on a new role still within the Automation and Engineering area, where I will serve as a Global IoT Integration Engineer, supporting Industrial IoT product development across regions where Syngenta Seeds Development operates. I am excited about this opportunity to apply all the knowledge I have acquired, aiming to drive our Research and Development processes towards constant digitization and innovation in the seed industry revolution.Throughout my career, I have honed skills in creativity, leadership, project management, communication, and innovation, always seeking new challenges and experiences.
