About Boris Gershkovich

I’m a Mechanical Engineering student at Arizona State University with a passion for sustainable innovation and precision engineering. Currently, I lead a team on the ASU Solar Car project, where we design and fabricate a solar-powered race car for national competitions like the American Solar Challenge and Formula Sun Grand Prix. With expertise in CAD, CNC programming, and structural analysis, I create high-performance components and drive efficiency in design and manufacturing processes. My hands-on experience includes managing multi-member teams, leading chassis and brake system designs, and conducting in-depth simulations to ensure safety and durability. From designing unique hydraulic brake systems to leading roll-cage re-design and simulation with ANSYS analysis, I thrive on building solutions that balance creativity and rigorous engineering.Whether it's through hackathons or innovative side projects, I’m dedicated to pushing the limits of what’s possible. Let’s connect if you’re interested in engineering, renewable energy, or developing sustainable technologies.

As a member of the Chassis Fabrication Team I took part in various processes including design, management, and hands on fabrication with a variety of tools. I modified several aspects of the design as the fabrication of the chassis progressed, such as modifying the roll cage to have a different bend radius due to tooling constraints. During the fabrication process I implemented several techniques to accelerate and organize production. I created a chassis tube cut list with all tubes paired up with their counterparts and listed with the cut length and tube thickness. Additionally I created a step by step coping guide to cope chassis tubes with pictures of the tubes with the matching angles that were needed. I also created an organizational system in the shop, with several bins marked for various stages of the chassis fabrication process, which made assembly smoother. I took part in various hands on processes as well. I learned how to TIG weld and practiced on scrap tubes for several months before the welding of the chassis so that I would be confident in my own skills and I would have a good grasp of proper welding techniques. Additionally, I coped over 50 tubes for the chassis using a coping tool with a hole saw drill bit as well as angle grinders and belt sanders to finish the tubes. I also bent several tubes on a hydraulic tube bender.

    Brakes Team Lead
Asu Solar Car Team Aug 2023 - Present
    Tempe, Arizona, United States
Brakes team lead overseeing group of 5 other engineering students. Collaborated on various projects such as brake rotor CAD, master cylinder selection, and brake line CAD. Insured that deadlines were met and worked with other team leads ensuring good workflow. Designed several iterations of a brake rotor in order to meet competition regulations as well as to reflect design changes on the brake caliper which was changed several times. Prototyped several versions of the rotor with 3D printing in order to test fitment. Additionally, I performed FEA on the rotor through ANSYS testing structural and thermal loading scenarios to ensure regulation compliance and adequate performance.
