I was born in Russia to African American parents, and I have spent many years traveling around the world from Korea to Pakistan. My parents were teachers who always believed in the power of education, and so as a child I was committed to learning and the truth. Yet in this pursuit I was often othered by not only my peers but my teachers. As a gay Muslim man, I am no stranger to ridicule, but I persevered and now embrace my unique identity. Today, I am dedicated to spreading awareness of the problems plaguing society; I have volunteered in youth centers, spoken out against climate change, and advocated for veganism among other issues. Most recently I interned with celebrated congressman Matt Gaetz to put my progressive ideals into action. Even on the side I strive to keep alive the culture of the working class. Through organizing hunting clubs and delivering slam poetry to local kindergartens, I have begun to foster not only a cultural identity but racial unity in the beautiful, diverse state of Vermont. The future is now, and I aim to use my unique background as a Muslim gay African American expat activist to bring change to the world.
