The Client is an American chain of luxury department stores. The Project is an e-commerce system for online shopping for the client’s customers. Main goal of this project is to migrate legacy ATG monolith to microservices architecture. The client faced several problems: their system was unable to scale well and handle changing load (especially during peak season), codebase became huge, unsupportable and fragile, a lot of efforts of the Ops team is required to keep the system running.The Client’s purpose is to use cloud managed services as much as possible to avoid delegating this work to Ops team. Also, the client decided to stick to AWS services.The Project’s main goal is to redesign and migrate the customer's ordering system to the new architecture.The Project’s design is mostly based on Serverless architecture meaning that it widely uses AWS Lambda, APIGateway, DynamoDB, SQS services. This approach allows to delegate all the infrastructure management to the cloud vendor. The Client is a department store with 1,014 locations in 49 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. The Project is an e-commerce system for online shopping for the client’s customers. Main goal of this project was to migrate legacy ATG monolith to microservices architecture. The client faced several problems: their system was unable to scale well and handle changing load (especially during peak season), codebase became huge, unsupportable and fragile.The Project was designed using microservices approach. The selected approach was to extract each piece of business functionality to a separate Java application based on Spring Cloud and Spring Boot technologies, wrap it with a docker container and run on AWS using EC2 VMs. Cassandra was selected as a scalable data storage. To make migration smooth there was a need to support synchronization between legacy systems and microservices, this functionality was implemented using Tibco JMS. Apigee system was used as an API Gateway. The Project is a small module to support the business feature that allows customers to shop with the client’s store directly from social networks.
