Directly involved in the staffing of the department from 15 to 45 professionals, using consistent design tools and methodologies in the concurrent development of multiple blood glucose meters and lancing devices for the consumer and hospital markets. Competencies in the design, development, and commercialization of low power, reflectance photometers, for blood glucose monitoring, were significantly improved by introduction of ASIC bread-boarding and mechanical design and analysis tools. Embedded software development was staffed to support a separate V&V group and more complexity in the products. In partnership with QA, led the development of FDA compliant processes. Maintained accountability for a $6MM budget, and timely fulfillment of department and project objectives. Developed and launched One Touch Profile, One Touch Hospital, and SureStep Pro.

Led the development and set-up of automated calibration and verification test stations for the One Touch manufacturing line. Designed and developed the electronic controller for Novacor's left ventricular assist device. Developed an ASIC based on semi-custom gate array technology. Responsible for development and characterization of the Novacor belt skin transformer used for RF telemetry and energy coupling energy to the implantable controller.

Designed and developed bipolar electrosurgical devices compatible with commercial generators. These devices eliminated the use of grounding pads and the associated hazards. Investigated the application of ultrasound, using ceramic piezoelectric transducers, to angioplasty catheters.
