Made architectural recommendations that increased the performance of ETL data ingestion into a large data analytics system by orders of magnitude while ensuring that the system met stringent security requirements to prevent data spillage and unauthorized access. Ensured compliance with all regulations and US law. Project was a very large Centos Hadoop cluster consisting of many thousands of servers and petabytes of storage. The project was nearly 100% open source including automated provisioning on software defined networks.Designed a highly available, highly secure virtualized environment for a sensitive national security requirement. Performed a commercial market analysis to determine best solution for client requirements, worked with system administration team to build out a proof-of-concept, once accepted by client management assisted with vendor selection and procurement, then oversaw integration of solution into production environment. Final solution consisted of VMWare ESXi, VMWare Horizon and vRealize, Windows 2012 and Windows 10, Active Directory, and additional customized software.

While supporting the Chief Information Officer of a US Intelligence Agency, developed policies and procedures for Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations. Conducted physical- as well as cyber- disaster exercises at both a technical and policy level, reported to the CIO on the findings and developed recommendations for improvement. Rewrote agency policy to ensure technical and legal requirements were satisfied.Performed business analysis on a large Oracle RAC database project. Made recommendations to speed time-to-production while reducing costs by identifying where the client could purchase pre-made solutions rather than developing in-house.Supported the Deputy CIO of a US Intelligence Agency during a large cybersecurity exercise conducted by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence with full participation of the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. Post-exercise work included whitepapers on lessons learned, mitigating all findings to prevent attacks, as well as follow-up in-house exercises to strengthen cybersecurity responses and recovery should a breach occur.Contracted to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to perform technical planning to improve reliability, availability and security in existing IT architecture.

While principal technical lead for a High-Performance Computing (HPC) project within the Intelligence Community, supported analysts conducting technical, computationally intensive analysis of complex datasets. Responsibilities include managing a team of engineers, working with customers to determine new requirements, architecting solutions to meet those requirements, working with other team members to resolve problems, satisfying customer expectations while meeting stringent security requirements and provide leadership by supervising a team of eight highly skilled server and application engineers. Responsible for the entire project which consisted of high speed servers, petabytes of enterprise-class data storage, multiple highly available database clusters, application server front ends for high speed database search and retrieval, virtualized server farms using VMWare, Solaris 10, Linux HPC clusters, large shared-memory HPC compute nodes and support for various customized GOTS and COTS software. Assisted SRA with government proposal as a subject matter expert (SME) in the area of Networks and High Performance Computing. SRA was one of six primes selected for this $6.6B five-year IDIQ.

The TechAmerica Foundation formed CLOUD2, a commission of senior thought leaders from industry and academia, to develop public policy for the White House in order to drive US innovation in Cloud Computing. Represented SRA International on this commission and served on the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Subcommittees, focusing on security and reliability / disaster recovery. The final report was delivered to the Federal CIO and Secretary of Commerce in July 2011.

Met regularly with 3rd party vendors to discuss and resolve these open issues, and coordinated future releases of products.Began career at Sun Microsystems as a member of a five-person “quick response” team covering the Southern U.S. from Washington, DC area to Mississippi. This group was the highest level of technical support expertise in the region. The team spent 35 to 50 percent of its time flying throughout the Area resolving the most complex customer service issues.
