Steven Boucher was recruited from a private hiring agency to join the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa in the spring of 2003. He was hired as part of the Job Connect, Summer Jobs Service team. For three summers he led the team in meeting placement targets; while recruiting new employers in each of those summers. In 2007 when it came time to launch the new Youth Opportunities Strategy, Summer Jobs for Youth program, Steven was our first choice as an employee. He did not disappoint!During the pilot year, Steven exceeded individual targets while leading the team to an extremely successful SJFY pilot in Ottawa. The SJFY program ran until 2015 and was a great success. From 2015 to present, Steven has been working with the Youth Job Connection program in helping secure employment to youth with various levels of barriers to employment.The words self-directed, highly motivated, extremely organized, innovative, energetic and caring are very fitting when describing his approach to everything Steven under-takes. Within Youth Services bureau he was chairperson of the youth Recognition Committee and sits on the Fifty and Beyond Committee, (focused on shaping the role of service delivery by this agency in Ottawa beyond 2010). Currently working on the Youth Job Connection with all eligible youth, focusing on those with the greatestemployment needs and experiencing significant employment barriers. These barriers include some combination of challenging life circumstances (e.g. poverty or homelessness), limited labour market experience, low levels of education or literacy, a lack of motivation, and discrimination. The program offers a range of services and opportunities for young people to learn about jobs and gain working experience. Steven is also an active member of the local advisory group for the automotive sector. As a father of two young daughters and one son, Steven is also very active in his community of Barrhaven with various committees and the Ottawa Catholic School Board.Specialties: Counselling, marketing, PR, Design, activist
