CurrentAs a Business Studies teacher & Assistant Curriculum Leader, I want my classes to be connected to the real business world. I want students to be striving for insights and applying their knowledge as much as possible. I have been teaching and acting as an Assistant Curriculum Leader at Leaside H.S. since 2024. I am also a speaker at professional development conference on how to modernize the Business Studies curriculum.Classroom Learning- created an Innovation Lab and Thinking Classroom- organized a professional development day to prepare teachers for the new entrepreneurship curriculum- developed interactive lesson plans to encourage creative critical thinking- designed assessments and culminating activities based on differentiated instruction- inspired students’ literacy and writing skills using technology and a variety of media- utilized universal design for learning to meet the needs of different studentsLearning Skills:- emphasized collaboration and student-centered activities - employed various understanding by design strategies to keep students engaged in school and focused in class- integrated literacy and numeracy activities into daily classes- constructed Community Connected Experiential Learning projects including a documentary for Grade 11 and an Integrative Thinking activity for Grade 10.Technology:- combined online resources and social media in collaborative learning exercises- introduced many technology platforms and virtual simulations to engage students- supplemented courses with rich Entrepreneur Education Project experiencesAt-Risk Students:- mentored struggling students to improve their math and critical thinking abilities- coached a team of at-risk Grade 9 and 10 students in order to encourage the players at school and in the community- managed student discipline, maintained safety and motivated at-risk students- collaborated with colleagues to create a meaningful Comic Book experience for at-risk co-op students
