New Energy Capital is my private advisory and investment firm focused on the development and financing of energy and resource projects in Australia and other parts of the world.

As Chairman I have overseen ReNu Energy’s strategy to become a listed Clean Energy Accelerator/Incubator. ReNu acquired Countrywide Renewable Hydrogen in early 2022 and is now implementing a strategy to be a first mover in green hydrogen production. ReNu has also made exciting investments in Australian start-ups such as supercapacitor and redox flow battery manufacturer Allegro Energy and Enosi Energy with its grid-scale renewable trading and tracing solution.

Developing a clean energy business in SE Europe consisting of 8 x 6MW distributed biomass CHP plants; 2 Miscanthus propagation laboratories and nurseries; and 5,500 hectares of Miscanthus plantations.

Led, developed and implemented NPM's strategic direction. Raised capital during difficult times, significantly reduced corporate running costs, tidied up and sold non-core assets to fund ongoing costs, reviewed numerous mineral exploration opportunities and negotiated some important deals which will provide significant funds into treasury, fully fund exploration activities in Europe and allow NPM to move forward with its rejuvenation.

Supported the MD and Board on the acquisition of projects, raising of capital and other commercial and development issues.

As an independent contractor led the development of a number of power projects in the Northern Territory, Australia. Achieved investment approval to expend $100m on projects from the Board and Northern Territory Government in February 2016. All the delivery processes and procedures put in place including team structure, document control, contract administration, approval compliance, community engagement plan, and project execution plans. Development scope included project definition and power station configurations, land, environment, cultural heritage, approvals, network connection, financial modelling, functional specifications, contractor procurement, scoping and negotiating EPC contracts and long term maintenance agreements, and developing a business case. Significant stakeholder interaction including staff, Northern Territory and local Government, various departmental authorities and local community. Also retained during this period to manage the decommissioning of the Ron Goodin Power Station in Alice Springs, conceptualised new battery system for system stability in Alice Springs, development of new solar power projects in the Northern Territory and long term power purchase agreements with the Department of Defence.

Partner and co-founded ARC, a boutique energy advisory firm providing services to a wide range of clients on all aspects of energy development in Australia and countries as diverse as Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Mongolia, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Yemen, Chile, Cuba and the Philippines. Some examples of mandates that were completed are as follows:Developer, Project Director and equity participant of the first CopperString Transmission system project linking the North West Minerals Province to the National Electricity Grid.Provision of energy development services to Xstrata Copper for development of a 450MW generation project to support the Tampakan copper and gold mine development in Mindanao, Philippines.Energy development services to G Resources to supply power to their Martabe gold mine development in North Sumatra, Indonesia

Responsible for leading the Business Unit tasked with securing fuel (~6MTPA) for the Tarong Power Station (TPS) for 30 years. Project development of the three alternative coal sources in parallel (Meandu, New Acland and Glen Wilga) and managing a multi-stakeholder decision process. Achievements include:Development and securing from Rio Tinto an option to acquire the existing Meandu coal mine and the undeveloped Kunioon coal resource.The development of the Tarong owned Glen Wilga coal resource and the associated 150 km railway infrastructure (incl. land acquisition, community relations, approvals, NTCH, engineering, geology, mine planning, stakeholder management etc.). Joint development of the New Acland Mine expansion and closing of an option to enter into an innovative 25 year coal supply agreement for 5.7 MTPA of thermal coal with New Hope Corporation Limited.Conception, closing and implementation of an alliance agreement with Leighton/PB (Tarong Transport Alliance) covering land acquisition, community relations, environment and other approvals, NTCH, design and construction for the development of a (120km) $450m piece of transport infrastructure from the New Acland Mine to the TPS. Chairman of the Alliance Board.Successful communication to internal and external stakeholders, local community and with multiple Government (State and Federal) agencies and departments.

Provision of commercial services for financial closure of the Aus$1.3 billion Alice Springs to Darwin Rail project. A major achievement was the substantial contribution to financial close of this iconic project.

Halliburton Energy Development was an oil and gas development arm of Halliburton set up to to create, negotiate and close energy deals that leveraged the products, services and knowledge of Halliburton. Achievements included:Acquisition of the Abab, Raja and Dewa oil and gas fields in South Sumatera; Indonesia; $52 mm investment; 50% interest.Negotiated a gas sales agreement with PERTAMINA for 15mmfcd for 15 years, Indonesia.Developed a Strategic Alliance Joint Venture with Oil Search Limited for development of Zhonghuan Field EOR, onshore China.
