Quality-by-Design’s consulting services are designed to assist companies, organizations and individuals in developing or improving the quality of their projects, processes and products. Professional services are based upon the methodology described in Brian Palmquist’s book, “An Architect's Guide to Construction—Enduring Ways in the Age of Immediacy”Depending upon our initial discussions and your current situation, some of the services listed below may be abbreviated:Prepare• Review your objectives for your PATH to quality • Identify through interviews and systems analysis where you currently stand in regards to qualityAnalyze• Compare your current approach and systems to universal quality system elements, including appropriate Principles, Attributes, Toolsets and Habits (PATH).• Identify missing, incomplete or confused elements and how best to supplement and improve them.• Propose a more complete PATH to quality consistent with your objectives, preferences and implementation budgetTrial• Assist you in establishing an appropriate trial of your more complete PATH to quality, including identifying approximate duration and extent• Monitor your trial Harmonize• Based on the trial results, review effectiveness of your complete PATH• Recommend additional or alternative PATH elements based on the trial• Provide a plan for you to implement your PATH• Assist with implementing your PATH, if requestedConsulting services are provided, managed and recorded using our Quality-Works (QW) software. QW is a collaborative, web-based element of our own PATH to Quality. Your PATH project is fully open to you for your ongoing input, monitoring and review.

I was recruited by Ledcor to use my Quality-Works.net (QW) software to manage quality at the $1billion+ BOW project in Calgary, Alberta with its 800 project users, including 25 Superintendents, 30 trades, consultants in three countries and two continents, etc. As the BOW project wound down after four years, I developed and implemented a simple Construction Quality Program (CQP), which is now used on every significant project in Ledcor’s 12 branches in Canada and the USA. On average, the CQP supports more than 150 active projects at a time, and Ledcor starts and completes one project each week that uses this quality program.I retired from Ledcor in May 2017.

I brought in and managed about 1/5th of the Vancouver Branch's professional services work during my tenure. I left on good terms to pursue a more challenging opportunity with Ledcor.

As one of two Principals, I developed and managed the majority of the firm's architecture, building envelope and building code projects. When I decided for market change reasons to sell the firm to MH, every one of my clients came with me to MH.
