I put myself through college in part by enabling people to have challenging, rewarding experiences in nature through rock climbing.

The first startup I ever mentored was a low-income, rural village in the rain forest of West Sumatra, Indonesia during a college internship with an NGO. The village traditionally supported themselves through logging and slash-and-burn farming, which were unsustainable occupations that caused significant environmental degradation. I helped the village start an eco-tourism company by advising them on creating exceptional customer experiences, marketing the company internationally, and guiding rock climbing. The eco-tourism company gave the villagers greater income while protecting the surrounding rain forest.
