Barclays Desktop ServicePlus (BDS+) programme formed a huge multi-year investment by the Bank in refresh of its business desktop, and back-end network services. This was an exciting project, introducing brand new, and feature rich network services to the business.I worked closely with many of the core Microsoft technologies and managed implementation of a large VMware Virtual Infrastructure solution. To support deployment of infrastructure and applications:- Twelve (5-node) VMware Infrastructure 3 (VI3) Clusters hosted approximately 800+ virtual machines.ESX Clusters were hosted on HP BladeSystem infrastructure and featured: High Availability (HA) & Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) designs. Around 25TB of EMC SAN storage was used to support virtual machines.As a member of the Architecture & Design team, my other responsibilities included:- disaster recovery strategy/design across all programme..technologies (300+ components)- design of work area recovery (WAR) solution – utilising VMware..Virtual Infrastructure 3 & VDI technologies- environment detailed level designs; server hardware/software..procurement- change control management- defect analysis and problem resolutionIt is always great to work with current technologies, and I enjoyed working alongside the many other subject matter experts employed on a project of this magnitude.
