Skilled entrepreneur, investor, and business leader with excellent interpersonal skills, a deep knowledge of business development, and a thorough understanding of food trends and the food economy. I'm the co-founder of The Food Loft, a coworking community for food and foodtech startups and small companies based in Boston that is a model for helping new businesses grow in a collaborative environment. My goal with The Food Loft is to develop a leading innovation hub that provides access to mentorship, networking and strategic assistance for food and foodtech startups. I've been an active investor in this arena for almost 10 years, and bring the skills and expertise I've acquired in that time to all of my conversations with entrepreneurs. I travel frequently to meet with entrepreneurs and investors in this rapidly growing market and to get to know the inner workings of the innovative companies poised to become leaders in the foodtech revolution. Through The Food Loft, I remain active as an investor in foodtech. To date, I've made a number of investments in foodtech startups, including Yummly, an intelligent recipe search engine that learns your taste preferences the more you use it, Caviar, a curated restaurant-delivery service, Crowdly, a social brand management platform that works with large food companies and others to help them better engage their customers via social media, and Alchemista, a corporate foodservice delivery provider that works with large clients. Square acquired Caviar in 2014.I was previously President and Publisher of The Harvard Common Press, a Boston-based publisher of award-winning cookbooks, which was acquired by Quarto Publishing Group USA in 2016. I’m interested in meeting food entrepreneurs, investors, and anyone who works food.Specialties: Business building, investing, entrepreneurship, food innovation, book publishing

The company has worked with a range of top food and lifestyle brands in providing actionable information to leverage social media marketing platforms. As an early investor in the company, I worked with the founder and his team to make introductions to prospective clients. InvestorAlchemista Jun 2015 - Aug 2018Boston, Ma, UsAlchemista offers high-touch catering to corporate clients in the Boston and Washington D.C. areas. They work closely with top-quality restaurants to provide unique culinary experiences for corporate breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as one-off catering events. I was both an early-investor and an active follow-on investor in the company. When the company raised their most recent round of funding, I worked to bring together a group of value-added investors in my network and significantly accelerated the company's funding efforts. I've also worked closely with the founder to bring on new corporate clients in the Boston area, and have worked to make connections to several strategic partners. -
InvestorYummly Aug 2010 - Aug 2016San Carlos, California, UsYummly is an intelligent recipe search engine that learns user taste preferences the more they use it. As both a website and stand-alone app, the company has grown to become one of the leading resources for recipe search online.I was an early investor in the company and participated in a number of Yummly's follow-on Seed and Series A rounds of funding. Beyond the investment, I also worked closely with the founder as an early advisor for the company, helping to make connections to media for marketing, PR and content development. I also brought a unique understanding of food to the table in helping the company identify some possible strategic opportunities beyond their core business. -
InvestorCaviar, Inc. Jan 2013 - Apr 2016San Francisco, Ca, UsCaviar provides delivery services for high-quality restaurants targeting both consumers and corporate clients. Originally launched in San Francisco, the company is now active in over a dozen cities. They were acquired by Square, Inc. in August of 2014.Even though the holding time for the investment was short, I worked closely with the founder of the company on three separate fronts: mapping out potential expansion into cities beyond San Francisco, making connections to media outlets for marketing when the company launched in new cities, and working intensively with his expansion team in Boston to maximize their potential. In Boston specifically, I helped make connections to area restaurants for business development and connected Caviar with our Food Loft community, giving the team access to resources and office space off which to launch their Boston operations. -
Early Stage Foodtech InvestorHcp Investors Jan 2010 - Mar 2016Focused on early-stage investments in foodtech startups that are harnessing digital and information technology to develop new platforms and solutions for food.
