Led a team of engineers responsible for building a game-changing product that has carved out a niche making geospatial data visualization and analytics approachable for business users. SpatialKey started as a proof of concept prototype in 2007 and grew into a full-fledged profitable business in just 3 years. Our initial foray into building the product was to build a SaaS mapping and visualization tool that was horizontally focused. After working with law enforcement, real estate, pharmaceuticals, and marketing companies, we refocused all of our energy in the insurance vertical. SpatialKey grew from a simple mapping tool into a full analytic platform with multiple solutions combining customer data, third party data and analytics. Some examples of those solutions are the Underwriting, Hazard Analyst, Hurricane Forecast, Earthquake Impact, and Wildfire apps. They allow insurers to understand risk at the point of underwriting using different hazard models as well as the impact of an event on their portfolio. We have also built several custom apps for customers, integrating their backend processes into our platform and exposing their analytics in an easy to use interface integrated into the SpatialKey experience. As VP of Engineering in a startup environment I handled a wide range of responsibilities:• Built out the software as a service infrastructure for SpatialKey from the ground up on Amazon AWS •.Created using open source software: Linux, Apache, Tomcat, Postgres, and Postgis. • Managed a distributed design and engineering team located throughout the world.•.Managed the development process for custom applications built on the SpatialKey platform. Worked directly with the Flex product team during the development of Flex from Alpha to release in March of 2004. I was responsible for first learning the product, then working with the existing support staff to identify and train a new support team. Worked with Macromedia Professional Service team to assist strategic customers to build proof of concepts to prove Flex as a new technology.

Responsible for the development and training given to U.S. Army personnel, Department of Defense civilians and foreign national students for courses on web design, active server pages, database design, Windows NT, and network security for over 500 students a year. Served as consultant for the U.S. Army on database and web application issues for SQL Server, IIS 4.0, Active Server Pages, and Cold Fusion.Developed a dynamic web based, database driven course critique system for US Army Signal Center to provide student feedback for over 1000 classes and 30,000 students per year. The Automated End of Course Critique system put the needed information into the hands of the decision makers 300% quicker than the manual system and reduced the workload by 200% saving the Army time and over $100,000 during the life of the system. System developed with Windows NT 4.0 Server, IIS 4.0, SQL Server 7.0, and Active Server Pages.

Improved the Division infrastructure from 9600bps modems to a fully functional WAN that included 2,000 computers, 75 Cisco routers, 10 Windows servers, and 4 MS Exchange Servers spanning 20 locations over a 200 mile radius.Designed and implemented a dynamic web based, database driven, tactical command and control system providing up to the second updates of equipment, personnel, and significant activities to commanders for a unit of over 18,000 personnel. Improved the go to war capabilities by putting real time battlefield information into the hands of the commanders up to 300% faster. It has fundamentally changed how the 2nd Infantry Division uses information and automation systems. It has increased the commanders ability to make decisions by providing more accurate, timely information that could save lives during a wartime situation. Proven successful in over 7 years of use. This system or adaptations thereof is the standard for command and control systems throughout the Army.
