I am an experienced minerals processing engineer with almost 22 years’ post graduate experience in mineral processing processes, operations management and research management. I have extensive research experience at fundamental and applied research levels covering laboratory, pilot plant and industrial scale research projects. Management experience has been gained at senior levels within the operational (Platinum and fluorspar industry) and research environments (applied and fundamental research departments). My management experience was further enhanced by completing the Programme of Management Excellence at the Gordon institute of Business Science.Operational experience also includes commissioning experience at PGM concentrators, a coal processing plant and a PGM milling and flotation pilot plant. Initially, my experience and knowledge have been mainly acquired in the platinum industry but during my tertiary studies I have had exposure to gold, uranium and coal processing during experiential training and vacation periods where have been exposed to and developed a good understanding of other mineral processing processes such as gravity concentration; dense media separation and magnetic concentration.Support and assistance provided to collaborative research programmes such as the AMIRA P9 programmes has allowed me to interact with global mineral processing experts from various institutions and countries. Through this interaction I developed a high level of understanding of especially comminution and flotation models and have utilised models and simulation software (JKSIMMET, JKSIMFLOAT and MolyCop Tools) to optimise operational processes and establish a network of experts around the world that I can utilise/contact. My extensive knowledge of processes provides me with the ability to understand the impact that proposed changes to one process may have on the whole value chain, both upstream and downstream, to ensure that the most profitable and efficient options are chosen for implementation. My operational management experience combined with my technical skills enable me to efficiently evaluate processes to identify potential areas for improvement and to identify, scope and implement solutions or technical programs to enhance operational performance and overall profitability of the business across the entire value chain.
