About Brad Bruesewitz

I used to wonder if I chose the wrong major. I am an extrovert by nature and enjoy being outdoors in any way I can: snowboarding, hiking, cycling, running, you name it. This felt contrary to my computer science peers who often enjoyed long nights of problem-solving for extra credit, surrounded by cans of Mountain Dew – and I respected them all deeply for it. I have recently learned that my choice of major was not only “right” but accentuates my skill set in a way few other majors could have. Computer science taught me patience, determination, critical thinking and humility. Patience and determination when homework assignments took hours because one silly bug would not disappear. Critical thinking and problem-solving to understand complex problems. Humility – there was always someone smarter than me. Combining these with my communication skills makes me a valuable asset to my team.In my role in Emerging Technologies at Great American Insurance, I have had the opportunity to marry my major and my natural skill set. I work to bring new technology into the company to streamline processes. I get to meet many new and talented people during conversations with potential vendors and flex my social muscles to build working relationships with future partners. I utilize my computer science background to assist my team in evaluating which technology is worth investing in and which technology is not worth the price tag.Navigating the R&D world can be difficult, but through the skills I have developed I am able to successfully help guide our team towards meaningful impact, enabling our organization to become more efficient and more profitable.
