In June of 2018, I returned to Canada after living in S.E. Asia for 5 years, being based primarily in Cambodia. I went to Abu Dhabi in December 2019, and due to the Corona virus situation, remained there until the end of August 2020! I am currently back in Canada, based in Alberta happily shooting for clients, writing the book chronicling the journey in Asia, and making marble sculptures! In that time in Cambodia, I experienced life in its rawest and grittiest forms, as only third world conditions can expose you to. I felt the elation of witnessing hope being given to the most vulnerable members of any society, its poor and its children. From this new found hope sprung successes as these fresh opportunities for education were utilized. Of course, I also witnessed pain and suffering. It was on display in the faces of those who’s hope had been lost after enduring lifetimes of toil and hardship, including civil war and genocide. These events, and factors of all sorts will have them mired in poverty for generations to come. In my time there, I worked with grass roots organizations that were bringing hope to those vulnerable humans. These generous souls were opening up the world of education to people who had previously been left unserved by their system. In addition to providing ongoing photo documentation, educational films and successful promotional films were produced. I also spent over half a year writing and photographing for a startup newspaper, starting as a fill in copy writer and was promoted to a staff position.A documentary film covering one of the individual international fundraisers had its final post-production completed upon my return to Canada and is currently in submission to international film festivals. After being away for five years, the prairie winter has taken on a new look to me, as it seems new again. I have been very inspired to capture the rural life that I am experiencing, both for myself and for my friends abroad, who simply cannot understand how it is that we can actually live in conditions like these.Otherwise it is still business as usual, doing photo and video projects for clients here in Canada.
