I began live streaming on Twitch.tv to re-connect with one of my best friends who moved to Tokyo. I soon found that there a lot of potential in streaming video games as a way to make money.As I continued streaming as a side hustle, I started getting donations and subscriptions from viewers. I decided that it was worth pursuing and I did not stop until I got partnership. It was difficult in the beginning, but I committed to the project when I decided to challenge myself to 365 days of streaming in a row (on top of my full-time job). I quickly rose to be within the top 1000 streamers on Twitch and built my YouTube channel to nearly 10 million views, got partnered soon after and was able to start making money on the platform.People always ask me, "Why would someone watch you just play video games?".I have done a lot of research into video games and just like every other sport out there, there are people who excel at video games. Just like someone would watch their favorite sports team play each week, it can be highly entertaining to watch an expert play the games that you struggle with and cannot play at the same level as the pros.The other reason people watch others play video games is because of the community. When new people join into my stream, I make sure I am very welcoming and make sure my chat and other viewers welcome and show new viewers a fun time. This creates an atmosphere where people not only just watch video games together, they become friends, laugh, and share excitement together.I have always looked for ways to make sure the content that I provide is not just about me. I try to find ways to give my viewers a positive experience with my content, but more importantly, I always encouraged them to engage with others within the community.The lessons I learned from streaming on Twitch have taught me a great deal about how to create quality, engaging content on social media which led me to co-founding Think Big Marketing with my brother.
