Consulting Network Engineer For Georgia Department Of TransportationCalance Nov 2015 - Aug 2016Anaheim, California, UsNetwork Engineer consultant with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for the Navigator Traffic and Highway System. Main job priorities include maintaining a Layer 3, 10g capable dark fiber network that traverses across the state of Georgia covering 100’s of miles. This fiber system, aka Navigator is responsible for the highway cameras, signs, lane changing gates, traffic lights etc. This data feeds into apps such as 511 and news agencies for traffic reporting updates, etc.Routed traffic for all of these devices through a hub network consisting of 3750x fiber switches, Nexus7k, Cisco IE 4000 Hardened Switches in an ISP style environment. Connected remote locations with Cisco 819 4g Hardened Routers installed in Outdoor locations. 4g services used extensively to connect our remote networks via 4g across Verizon’s Private MPLS. Used multiple OSPF areas to segregate and manage the highway network with heavy implementation of multicast in order to route thousands of video streams from highway and intersection cameras.A recent successful project of mine reduced the time taken to configure batches of 200 routers from 1 month down to 4 days. I personally built and managed standalone Cisco Prime Infrastructure and Cisco APIC servers bringing an SDN approach to network management. Was personally responsible for configuring and managing a fleet of over 1400, 819 routers, 100 Cisco 3750x, and various other network devices primarily with the use of Cisco Prime Infrastructure. With Cisco Prime, I set up monitoring and alert policies based off of a serious of SNMP traps, monitoring checks, netflow as well as other data sources. This data provided a lot of insight into how data traversed the network and allowed us to see where improvements in network flow, management etc. could be improved upon as well as provided network autmoation. -
