About Brad Killen
I have been a part of the University of Wisconsin - Madison's SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Design Competition team, Badgerloop, for the first two competitions and am on the team for the third competition as well. During my time on Badgerloop, I have been an Electrical Team Lead overseeing the design, fabrication, and debugging of all of the required connections and operations of the sensors and data acquisition. This included the over 100 different sensors and components that were connected by over half a mile of wiring.In addition to that, I have spent two summers as an intern at Milwaukee Electric Tool. My first summer was within the New Product Development side of the company. More specifically, I was worked within the Motor Group. In this position, I was given the task of designing, fabricating, and verifying proof of concept of a test procedure and test fixture to characterize various aspects of the company's motors. For my second summer, I was within the Reliability and Quality Engineering side of the company. During this time, I worked with the Power Tools Reliability and Quality Engineering Group. In this position, I developed a brand new work instruction and test procedure to be used within the organization during the product design stage. This procedure exposed a tools design to extreme temperature and vibrational stresses to simulate the life of the tool in a highly accelerated manner. The purpose of this was to identify weaknesses within the product design with the end goal of making a design change to eliminate or reduce this weakness and as a result, reducing warranty claims by creating a more robust tool.In both of these positions, I was in constant communication with people of various departments, technical knowledge, and leadership level. Because of this, I have gained invaluable experience in the area of effective communication using emails, conference calls, leading meetings, and giving presentations.
