Expanded portfolio and reset focus of business to support customers and growth.
Product Manager - Powders & Automotive
Responsible for sales and customer service for AMETEK Eighty Four site. Worked to rebuild customer confidence, strengthen relationships, and expand portfolio.
Metals Group Manager
My team and I managed the product portfolio, engineering, documentation, scheduling, BOMs, and raw materials supply chain for metallic materials produced by Praxair Surface Technologies’ Powder Plant. The team included key experts in metallurgy, melting, and atomization technologies. We curated a portfolio of some 10,000 products and actively worked to improve our portfolio and capabilities through close ties to customers, continuous improvement, and lean/six sigma methodologies.Along with our commercial and production teams, we turned PST into the premier producer of Additive Manufacturing materials and upheld our reputation as a top quality manufacturer of metal powders for thermal spray and additive.
New Product Development Manager
Identified, designed, and delivered novel and specialty powder products with industry-leading lead times and service. Focused on additive manufacturing (AM), thermal spray, braze, and specialty applications powders. Delivered the highest quality aerospace grade products faster, and at the most appealing cost. Led team of experts in the manufacture of metallic, ceramic, and composite powders, and offered one of the largest ranges of products in the powder industry with leading quality and capabilities.
Special Orders Product Line Manager (Plm)
Responsible for the mini P&L component of the Praxair Surface Technologies Powders business comprised of custom materials, engineering/development materials, and NPI. Responsibilities included pricing, quoting, new products, new technologies, and new materials. Developed a talented group of engineers and production technicians to support these activities. As part of this role, I was responsible for the quality of products produced, the timeliness of delivery, and First Articles. The NPI team sustained double-digit growth and completely replaced a large section of the portfolio in collaboration with the commercial teams.
Lead Scientist
Lead Scientist 1 - Materials Science and Engineering. Developed world-leading technical attributes to differentiate GE products across its multiple operating businesses. Led technical development efforts and drove technical standards and advanced technologies to production. My primary focus in this role was on delivering value through differentiating technology to GE's Aviation and Power businesses, though I maintained some reduced workload with the other businesses.
Mission Leader - Turbine Coatings
Responsible for the turbine coatings mission of one of GE Global Research's 65% Gas Turbine Product Breakout to provide game changing performance in terms of efficiency and power delivery for GE's most advanced Power generation turbines: the HA machines (7HA and 9HA). Led the team that identified and utilized the fundamental physics and systems performance relationships to improve efficiency of some of the most complex thermal protection systems ever designed.
Coating Materials Scientist
Developed coatings processes and materials to add value for GE businesses. This included immediate business needs and long term strategic initiatives. I expended significant effort identifying critical technology gaps and setting up development programs for success. Led major programs exceeding $3M in funding with potential 15 year NPVs in excess of $6B across multiple businesses. My teams made extensive use of Six-Sigma tools and a little bit of processing and materials black magic to develop novel systems with exceptional potential. My involvement in materials programs was broad, and I managed, led, or worked as a subject matter expert (SME) on a number of programs ranging from fundamental development of materials to automation and data collection and analysis. It was and is to this day a point of pride to learn all that I can from the brilliant engineers, managers, and scientists with whom I worked.
Ph.D. Candidate In Materials Science And Engineering
My dissertation research focused on the thermomechanical behavior of some baseline Enivronmental Barrier Coatings (EBCs) for SiC(/SiC) applied by Air Plasma Spray (APS). Specifically, I studied the development of optimal coating structure through parameter selection and life prediction through thermomechanical analysis and development of materials property data. I collaborated with both NASA Glenn for environmental work and NASA Langley for nondestructive evaluation, as well as with others at UVA and UCSB.In my time as a graduate student, I selected equipment for and oversaw the design and installation of a roughly $1M thermal spray lab: I was the primary user of this lab, and responsible for maintainence of equipment and safety procedures within the lab. I developed the safety and operating procedures in cooperation with Environmental Health and Safety, and learned a great deal about project management through setting up the thermal spray facility and fabricating samples there.
Graduate Research Assistant
Thesis: Environmental Barrier Coatings (EBCs) for structural ceramics in engine hot sections.
Nasa Pathways Intern Employment Program- Student Trainee
My work focused on mechanical behavior of Environmental Barrier Coatings (EBCs) for Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs), particularly on mechanical properties at low and high temperatures. This included exposure to modern high temperature systems, though my research explicitly treated baseline materials properties determination for enhanced understanding of EBC behavior. My mentor in the Pathways program was Dr. Dongming Zhu in the LME branch (formerly RXD).My primary work included independent materials property data determination for strength, toughness, and creep resistance of APS coating materials.
