Library Assistant
Current• Opening/Closing procedures including locking/unlocking doors, arming/disarming alarms, processing daily and weekly money and preparing a daily float.• Plan, promote and present activities for various library demographics ie Storytime sessions for 0-5’s and their parents, computer and tech instruction for seniors, literature related events during the holidays for school age children.• Assist customers in locating library materials, including periodicals, books, magazines and electronic resources and to get better access to library products and services using online search tools, library management software and an understanding of the various products and services and how they relate to customers.• Process incoming stock such as books, DVD’s, magazine’s, CD’s and prepare for customer use.• Effectively and calmly resolve conflict with customers.• Able to work unsupervised or manage a team.• Varied backroom tasks such as document delivery ordering, receiving and returning, lost property, customer purchase suggestions, stores and stationery ordering.• Manage the storage and easy retrieval of library materials.• Instruct and assist customers in the use of computers, scanners, photocopiers, printing, WiFi access and emerging technologies • Maintain library equipment in proper working order.• Undertake library desk shifts including greeting customers and resolving all customer requests efficiently, courteously and respectfully, face to face or via phone. Accurate money handling via EFTPOS or cash. Set up new accounts, issue library cards and accurate entry of customer data.
