The most important thing I’ve learned in my career is that ‘collaboration’ is more than a buzzword. The key to smooth operations and change is teamwork and mutual respect between all employees. That is gained and earned through open communication, solicitation and acceptance of feedback, development of team goals and providing a helping hand when needed. I evaluate myself and my staff on the same playing field. We work together to brainstorm and solve problems by listening to each other. Whenever possible, I’ve worked to expand this collaborative process to other teams and functions enterprise-wide. By looking at the organization as a whole, I’ve saved my employer millions through the process of identifying and rectifying inefficiencies, and by negotiating better deals within the supply chain. Between 2007 and 2008, I served on my company’s ERP team to help identify processes that were hindering growth. In 2013, I recommended and led implementation of WMS (warehouse management software) to eliminate the roadblocks and confusion caused by an outdated paper-driven system. We achieved ROI on the $500K WMS investment 20 months ahead of schedule, and allowed for smoother, steadier growth as a result. My goal is to enhance operations by identifying opportunities for improvement and developing relationships that benefit the organization as a whole.
