About Brad Schlueter
I'm a drummer, drum teacher and writer located in Batavia, IL. I've been teaching drums throughout my professional life and was fortunate to teach for 20 years at one of the premier professional drum shops in the country (The Drum Pad). I've been writing feature articles, transcriptions, interviews and product reviews to Drum! Magazine twenty years, as well as for Modern Drummer, Electronic Musician, Traps, JazzTimes, Drumhead and many music websites. I've also contributed many educational videos to Drum! Magazine's website demonstrating concepts that I've presented in my articles. In 2011, I wrote the transcription book accompanying Todd Sucherman's award-winning "Methods and Mechanics" DVD and was pleased that the book received so many 5-star reviews and was nominated as the best educational product of the year by Drum! Magazine and Modern Drummer.I did all the Finale notation and contributed transcription to the “Stewart Copeland: Drumming in the Police and Beyond” book from Hudson Music.I'm also a working drummer. One of the best parts of being a professional drummer is playing in bands of different styles and always working with new musicians. I'm a dedicated musician who loves to play, practice and take on new projects. I enjoy the creative side of music, writing, teaching and life in general and the relationships that my work has given me. Someone recently asked me what style I play and I joked that "It depends on who dialed my number.” I play all styles and love performing wedding/corporate event work because you get to cover such a wide range of music and work with high-calibre musicians. I play in a couple of jazz/Latin groups and play rock and pop songs from the '50's to present in several live karaoke bands. The fun thing about live karaoke bands is the repertoire is vast and there aren't too many gigs where you might play songs by Dolly Parton, Metallica and Lady Gaga right after one another. I'm lucky to be a drum teacher and professional musician and am grateful to work with so many talented people.

I am an experienced freelance drummer who works with a variety of bands ranging from Jazz trios to large wedding/society bands to high energy party bands. I also perform with club and festival bands, praise/worship bands and in several live karaoke bands.I am interested in maintaining my current musical relationships, but I'm always open to new ones.I've also been employed for the past 15 years as a freelance writer and write monthly for Drum! Magazine. I have also written for Modern Drummer, Electronic Musician, Traps, Drumhead and JazzTimes music magazines and other music websites. My transcription and method book was recently published titled "Todd Sucherman: Methods and Mechanics Companion Book/CD" that was based on the award winning DVD and was nominated for the 2012 Drummie Award and the 2013 Modern Drummer Reader's Choice Award as the best educational book of the year.I also do video product reviews for Drum!
