In this position I provide 1-on-1 distance career advising for diverse professionals to enhance the skills and confidence necessary to navigate challenging career decisions.

In this role I was working with undergraduate students to help them identify suitable career paths. I guided them through exploration of their skills, values, personality, and interests and help them connect their understanding of themselves and their identity to career fields congruent with those factors. Additionally, I connect with faculty and campus groups to deliver presentations on various topics including career exploration, personality type, resume writing, and job search strategies. I also created several new streams of content including the Career Corner Podcast, and YouTube videos which aim to educate our students on relevant career topics.

In this position, I provided mental health counseling services to adolescents, adults, and families. I provided solution-focused therapy, CBT, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and psycho-education in order to assist clients in gaining new personal insight, stronger self-awareness, enhance and develop new coping skills, and enhancing resiliency.

I had the amazing experience of working with students and alumni of Walsh College on their mission of turning their education into a fruitful and productive career. I worked with students in preparing themselves for presentation to employers by reviewing effective job search strategies, writing and critiquing resumes, providing mock interviews, and guiding them to resources such as career fairs and on-campus recruiting. My efforts with students led to the direct hiring of numerous students.

I taught the course HDS110 - Career Decision Making. In this course I cover the necessary ingredients needed to make an informed career decision including self-exploration, the world of work, decision-making strategies, and professionalism and success in the workplace. In the course students develop a better understanding of their interests, personality, values, and skills through the use of assessment tools such as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory. In addition, I have been asked to develop a new mandatory freshman student success course coming Fall 2018. I had the wonderful opportunity to facilitate educational, career and personal development in students from all walks of life. In my position as a career counselor I worked with students to develop tentative goals, select courses, integrate long term plans including graduation and transfers to 4-year universities, and provide career exploration. I utilized assessments and tools to facilitate a stronger understanding of self and how their careers will ultimately be an extension of their own true identity.
