I worked with the Covid-19 Mobile Testing Task Force. We tested hundreds of members of sensitive populations daily in nursing homes, drive through locations, rehab facilities, prisons, halfway homes, etc and help administer vaccinations to the general public. I have assisted in over 3000 Covid Tests and over 20,000 Covid vaccinations. This operation resulted in being awarded the Armed Forces Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for going above and beyond the required tasks and responsibilities.

I worked as a quarantine zone coordinator at the second largest quarantine zone in Salt Lake County, housing up to 70 individuals at a time. My duties included maintaining the quarantine zones, supervising proper PPE practices for all site personnel, acquiring & accounting for medical equipment, and some minor case work for our quarantine zone guests.

I planned, organized, and carried out a small-scale research project focused on mapping out protected Mayan forests in Guatemala. When we lost funding to send me down to Guatemala, I coordinated and collaborated with other professors and graduate students to modify our parameters and have others collect field data in my stead. I worked with ArcMap GIS to analyze and successfully organize significant data with commercial forest metrics that had never been applied to environments with large tropical diversities. Careful planning helped us complete our project on time, and the research is in review for academic publication with myself as the first author. I also implemented training schedules for students in GIS techniques and assisted faculty in producing maps and displays for presentations.

I worked as the head teaching assistant for the Wilderness Survival course, taking an active role in curriculum development, teaching, and hazard mitigation. As the lead teaching assistant for our wilderness survival course, it was my job to keep the instructor on track, teach in his absence, and plan the supply logistics of our 4-day final. The instructor was experienced but impaired by a hefty attention deficit disorder. I would regularly adapt my reviews and assistance to cover forgotten material. During two semesters, the lead instructor was rarely able to attend classes and left me in charge to teach the course in his absence. This caused me to adapt my school schedule and other jobs to accommodate the preparation of materials, collaborate with the other teaching assistants, and curriculum for the students. Our course reviews those semesters were higher than average.On multiple occasions I triaged and attended students with various injuries using available natural resources until professional help could be facilitated. In one instance, I was leading a group of students on an 8-mile night hike to our base camp. Midway through the hike, one of the students had forgotten their inhaler and began exhibiting signs of asthma. Without radio contact, I instructed two students on navigation to the camp and supplies. I identified and prepared an indigenous medicinal plant to administer as a medication. The medicine worked and the student was stabilized until we could provide an inhaler. The student made a full recovery and finished the four-day final. I concurrently worked as a teaching assistant for multiple courses in our department including graduate level courses: rangeland ecology, forestry.

I supervised and coordinated over 80 event security staff at BYU football games, basketball games, and various cultural events that included high profile attendees and talent. Many events had over 60,000 attendees. I worked closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure a secure perimeter, orderly flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and acting as a first line of de-escalation. During the events, my role as the lead security officer was to enforce laws and solve problems without letting them escalate to a point where law enforcement needed to be involved. This was accomplished by delegating instructions to my staff, maintaining regular communication, and training our staff effectively. As a result, during my tenure as the event security supervisor we had no major security issues and I was able to transfer my role to my successor smoothly.

I worked in a soils laboratory while studying at Brigham Young University as a visiting student. Our lab studied Carbon-14 isotopes to map ancient Maya corn fields and tracked caffeine in Theobromine cacao to follow population movements of ancient Mesoamerican peoples. I was able to distinguish myself from the other undergraduate students in the laboratory by increasing my availability and mastering peripheral tasks such as grinding soil and cleaning instruments. I was then given more responsibility and put in charge of carrying out experiments using X-ray Fluorescence and Titrations. Dr Richard Terry recruited me through the Nelson-Dairy scholarship to matriculate to Brigham Young University and continue researching with him. My research was published in the BYU Journal of Undergraduate Studies and led me to receive a job in another lab as a lead researcher and a teaching assistant.

I worked with a partner performing small mammal surveys, searching for the dark kangaroo mouse, throughout the western Utah desert as well as pika surveys and some bat surveys. We set 500 traps in multiple lines over the site each night and took measurements of the captured rodents each morning. We also conducted vegetation surveys for our rodent sites. Typical work weeks were conducted entirely in the field without supervision.
