(http://www.skytrac.ca) develops certified satellite technology-based integrated flight following, mapping and communications systems for aircraft.I was involved in two projects, the DSAT-300 portable flight following and text messaging transceiver, and the ISAT-200A flight following, voice and messaging, data transfer transceiver. I performed hardware qualification and testing for the DSAT project, and designed and qualification tested the audio subsystem (headset, POTS FXS) of the ISAT-200A project.

(http://www.sutus.com) develops an office-in-a-box solution for small businesses.I was a versatile member of both the hardware and software development teams.For high-level software development, I used various UML tools and Python as the implementation language.I collaborated in the design of a VoIP-to-3-line-PSTN gateway and was responsible for its PCB layout and bootstrapping the prototype boards.I was the primary maintainer of the Linux kernel and hardware drivers for the MSP8510-based project, and was responsible for the bootstrap of the first prototype boards based on the PMC-Sierra MSP8510 (MIPS) and the Texas Instruments TNETV1060 (MIPS, DSP).I was involved with setting up and modifying equipment for the FCC EMI class A and B compliance investigations and approvals with a pre-qualification lab in Abbotsford and was also part of a team sent to Taiwan to coordinate a trial production run intended for full factory production in Tianjin, China, and prepare for FCC class B approvals.

(http://www.wr.vecimasupport.com/index.php, absorbed by Vecima) developed wireless broadband Internet hardware.I was with WaveRider from its conception in 1997, through its startup phase, and into its emerging maturity. I helped design the hardware and write the embedded firmware for the NCL1170 and the CCU3000 products, which, though now obsolete, are still in service today.I developed high-level designs for the digital hardware components of the wireless Internet products, as well as schematics and board layout. I used VHDL and Xilinx tools (for Virtex and Spartan families) to interface a PCI core to a custom serialized baseband controller core, and Altera schematic capture (for MAX and Flex families).I was part of the embedded software team (C and assembly languages) as a technical liaison and maintainer of the RTOS (VxWorks, ThreadX) board support packages and as an application and driver software developer for PowerPC MPC860 and MPC8240, StrongARM SA1110, Coldfire, and x86 platforms.I was exposed to all aspects of TCP/IP, IEEE 802.3 Ethernet, and 802.11b wireless protocols.I have some experience in the design of Windows NT driver model (WDM) drivers for proprietary PCI devices and NDIS miniport-for-WDM drivers.

I used AutoCAD to generate PCB artwork for a methane/propane/butane gas sensor and alarm design. I serviced and calibrated HD1S Herring Sex Sorters and CCS Can Scanners on site throughout the greater Vancouver area.
