As a ESG Consultant on the Sustainability Practice Team, my role was to connect with other teams across the organization to amplify Antea Group's ESG, human rights, and due diligence work. Additional responsibilities include:• Assess human rights and responsible sourcing activities throughout the value chain and develop actions that engage clients on human rights initiatives. • Advise on and facilitate Antea Group’s 7-Step Approach to embedding a sustainability program, including guiding clients with materiality assessments, goal setting, ESG policy development, designing strategic frameworks, and outlining implementation plans and roadmaps.• Benchmark client and peer industry approaches relating to human rights and management of ESG topics.• Develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of developments relating to emerging human rights, social impact and sustainability regulatory and industry trends including CSRD and CS3D.• Serve as Office Leader for the Greater St. Louis Region (St. Louis + Chicago) enabling resource stewardship and developing teams that deliver on client work commitments.

I was part of Ethics and Social Impact team responsible for enterprise-wide human rights activities. In partnership with the Public Affairs and Sustainability leadership team, I co-developed and enhanced mid to long-term strategies to support the proactive integration of human rights due diligence along the entire value chain.I spearheaded a number of projects, most notably, a salient human rights risk assessment to identify potential human-rights related risk in agricultural, pharmaceutical and consumer health supply chains. Additionally, I updated the company human rights policy aimed to set and communicate responsibilities, expectations and commitments with regard to child labor, forced labor, freedom of association, working time, wages & benefits, discrimination and harassment, inclusion & diversity, health & safety, patient safety, environment, security and data protection. I represented the company in strategic business groups including, the BSR Human Rights Working Group, the PSCI Human Rights & Labor Team, and the USCIB Corporate Responsibility & Labor Affairs Committee. Additionally, I tracked upcoming due diligence legislation and co-developed strategies with business leaders to integrate mitigation measures across corporate functions and the supply chain.

Shifting away from internal program development to external stakeholder engagement, I accepted this role providing strategic input on emerging human rights and labor trends, social compliance, and policy positions, including engagement with policy makers and NGOs to advance the company’s position as a leader in human rights. In partnership with the Stakeholder Strategy & Affairs team, I developed, and implemented a stakeholder strategy and coordinated ensuing engagements building positive relationships with relevant governmental and United Nations bodies, including the DOL, ILO, IOE, and the UN Global Compact to ensure achievement of business and advocacy goals and to improve transparency regarding shared supply chain issues in the agriculture industry.

Following the Bayer acquisition of Monsanto, my role expanded and was aimed at embedding the philosophy and values of the Human Rights Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct into daily work practices for all functions and geographies to advance workers’ rights and improve supplier compliance with established standards in the region. In collaboration with my broader team, I defined, operated, and implemented a Human Rights Management System (HRMS) to ensure global process control and alignment to standard operating protocols including the development of training content, communication packages, procedures, and audit checklists. Additionally, I managed the Global Audit Program focused on audits of field labor providers on a risk-priority basis, issued corrective and preventive actions, completed root cause analysis, and provided mitigation plan proposals to leadership to address violations of human and labor rights in the supply chain. Following the completion of more than 100+ hours of community service, I was honored with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award in 2018. Additionally, I served as the subject matter expert on a project focused on bringing awareness to the intersectionality of community, environment and human rights resulting in being honored with the Sustainability Excellence Award.

As the Global Human Rights Platform Lead, I led efforts to enhance existing processes of the human rights program including due diligence, salient risk identification, ESG reporting, employee training, and social & labor audits to realize operational improvements and program transparency. Reporting into the Office of Law & Policy – surrounded daily by lawyers – provided me with the opportunity to develop a keen understanding of globally recognized human rights frameworks, worker voice, international relations, public affairs, environmental compliance, and international labor standards.Leveraging an informal network of 25 employees worldwide, representing 200,000+ seasonal and migrant workers in 40 countries, I developed a strong understanding of local customs and risk, and ensured global audit and compliance targets were met in respective world areas. Additionally, I led investigations related to potential violations in our own operations (employees) and value chain (suppliers), communicated findings to Legal, Procurement, and Human Resource executives, and developed action plans to ensure adherence to corporate policies.

Additionally, I optimized the budget through effective resource planning and procurement of service contracts for the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment and built upon my LEAN and Six Sigma experience, completing a number of projects to harmonize regional testing procedures and optimize processes.One of the most rewarding experiences of my career was the opportunity to support an employee in perusing their high school diploma. We spent time each week discussing progress and questions related to course work - in addition to our full-time responsibilities. It was many years later in my career that I found out that, not only did they earn their high school diploma, they went on to earn a college degree.

This was my first leadership role in a corporate setting and an opportunity to motivate and inspire individuals to grow and develop in their careers. Managing hourly employees in California can be a daunting task due to some of the most stringent labor laws in the Country. Without even knowing it at the time, I gained invaluable training in human and labor rights including compensation, working hours, health & safety, freedom of association and legal compliance. Additionally, I became a certified ISO auditor laying the foundations of effective communication, root cause analysis, capacity building, and management systems set-up.

Building on my undergrad education in Agriculture Sciences and experience working in the horticulture industry, I left the college farm and leaped into the commercial Ag industry. As the Commercial Sales Manager Trainee, I completed a 15-month rotation in the Desert Southwest based in Yuma, AZ focusing on everything under the sun…literally. This was an incredible opportunity to learn the many aspects of the vegetable seed business, and aside from spending most of my day in the blistering desert heat, I wouldn’t trade the in-field experience for anything.
