Effectual Giving, LLC was first established in 2010 with the vision of starting new breed of planned giving consulting firm. During my career as a Florida estate planning & tax attorney working with many philanthropists and charitable organizations, I've witnessed too many well-conceived planned giving recommendations fail to become a reality - for the wrong reasons. Too often, the donors' own well-intentioned professional advisors (attorneys, accountants and financial planners) lack the requisite planned giving expertise to properly advise their clients. As a result, those advisors unintentionally contribute to the demise of a particular planned giving recommendation. Moreover, many development offices lack the necessary budgetary resources and expertise to properly navigate the planned giving waters alone with their donors and their advisors. The mission of Effectual Giving is simple - to help charitable organizations and philanthropic families navigate the planned giving minefield in order to transform planned gift donor recommendations into a reality. In other words, we help "effectuate" major planned gifts for both philanthropic families and the charitable organizations they support. Effectual Giving serves as a planned giving consultant to charitable organizations or philanthropic families depending of the facts of a specific case. Additionally, Effectual Giving is often called upon by private client/wealth offices at financial institutions, individual financial planners, trust companies, accountants and other estate planning attorneys to assist a particular estate plan, exclusively as a planned giving consultant to the philanthropic client.

Legal services in all areas of: (i) estate planning, including the utilization of revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, intentionally defective grantor trusts, life insurance trusts, charitable remainder and lead trusts, other charitable planned giving techniques, and family limited partnerships; (ii) estate and trust administration including the preparation of complex U.S. estate tax returns, funding trust/estate distributions, homestead and probate; (iii) asset protection planning; (iv) commercial real property transactions; (v) all aspects of business planning and transactions, including mergers & acquisitions and (vi) federal taxation planning including corporate, partnership, trust/estate income taxation and like-kind exchanges.

During my law school years at the University of Florida, I had the privilege of working directly with the VP of Major Gifts and Development in the creation of complex customized planned giving proposals for the strategic donors to UF, which involved the use of charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, life estate agreements and deferred compensation planning strategies.
