As Hurricane Ike made its way toward the Texas Gulf Coast in the Summer of 2008, I became inspired by local media coverage to volunteer for the American Red Cross. For many months I dedicated my time to others, and along the way quickly became obsessed with the idea of doing “mass care” full time.
