After completing a joint internship with Mary Means and Associates and Preservation Action while in college, I tailored my education and professional experience to work effectively in Main Street and community development. My undergraduate degree is in political science, useful when dealing with public policy. My graduate degree is in planning concerning the physical, social and economic development of communities. I also have a certificate in municipal administration from the Institute of Government at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and a certificate in economic development from the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma.My twenty years of public sector and nonprofit experience include four executive positions including more than fifteen years as Business and Community Development Director for the City of Lincolnton. In these roles, I have managed financial and human resources; developed and implemented comprehensive and strategic plans; managed special projects; and represented my community on the local, state and national levels. In addition to my education and experience, I have demonstrated a special aptitude for leadership and community engagement. I interact regularly with local citizenry, business leaders, and elected officials. I am an active participant in many community organizations. I was recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the United Way of North Carolina, received a commendation for service to the citizens of Lincolnton from the Lincolnton City Council and have been awarded numerous other recognitions for my service above self.
