To us—and our two young children—Chicago is home, and we could not imagine raising our children anywhere else. But like many Chicagoans, we are worried about our family’s safety. While crime has increased, the number of police officers in our district has been steadily declining. The 18th District is so short-staffed and spread thin that effective community policing has become nearly impossible.Tragically, many of us in the 18th District have seen crimes first-hand on our blocks, within our stores, or while riding the CTA.We all deserve to raise our families in a Chicago that prioritizes protecting all children and neighbors. Chicago should be a city that invests heavily in education and social services, and in a police force with the training and resources to effectively prevent and combat criminal behavior. Families can only flourish in a safer Chicago, in which our police beat officers are members of a neighborhood’s extended family, keeping our communities safe. But this version of Chicago I hope and work for, the version I have always believed could exist, needs our collective support.

I am very proud to co-lead a locally-headquartered education business, Academic Approach, in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. We work with schools and students from all socio-economic backgrounds across Chicago and the country. While we are widely known for our 1-on-1 tutoring services, we are even more widely known in public and private schools throughout the Chicago, where we provide in-depth support for teachers and students. Academic Approach began over 20 years ago with a focused mission: to mentor students while building their skills and confidence as they fill in essential gaps in curriculum that prevent them from being fully successful both on assessments and in the classroom. Over the years, Academic Approach has developed instructional content, services, and staff in order to reach thousands of students in raising scores, growing skills, and opening doors to higher education.Academic Approach works closely with parents, teachers, schools, and entire school systems in the effort to rethink the role of academic learning and test preparation within education. We proudly support public and private high schools throughout Chicago, Detroit, New York, and other cities across the country through:- customizing and personalizing our instruction to each student to provide the highest growth in student achievement- supporting and enhancing the great work teachers perform everyday in the classroom by providing high-quality instructional professional development and tech-enabled, data driven resources.

As a board member, I facilitate relationships, provide counsel, and secure financial support for the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center (CCAC). CCAC is Chicago’s only nonprofit organization that coordinates efforts from the Cook County States’ Attorney’s office, the Department of Children and Family Services, the Chicago Police Department, family advocates, medical experts, and mental health clinicians under one roof to help children and families heal from abuse in a comprehensive wrap-around method.Prior to my role on the Advisory Board, I actively participated as a member of the policy subcommittee for the Chicago Children's Advocacy Center.

As an elected member of the Board of Directors for our neighborhood organization, we coordinate and organize safety and security for our community.

The StartED Accelerator, in collaboration with NYU's Steinhardt School of Education, provides investment and mentorship to 9 edtech companies. The 9 companies were selected after a total of 400+ companies applied. I provide mentorship to education technology companies, specifically around sales strategy, revenue model, procurement, legal strategy, business development, investment strategy, and marketplace fit.

I am honored to be an elected Local School Council member for Lincoln Park High School. To help support this high school of over 2100 students, I sit on the Safety Committee, Budget Committee, and Facilities Committee. In addition to my active role within these committees, I am a persistent advocate for faculty, students, and our Lincoln Park neighborhood.

MortgageHippo.com is an online tool that walks prospective buyers through every stage of the home loan process: from shopping around with multiple lenders and recommending the best mortgage for a borrower's specific needs to streamlining and automating the mortgage application and approval process. We created MortgageHippo to remove the mortgage process inefficiencies, lack of transparency, and bait and switch tactics.

Upon graduating from Northwestern Law School in 2009, I joined the leadership team at Chicago Public Schools under then incoming CPS CEO Ron Huberman. I held various leadership roles over several years working within CPS. 1. I led the anti-violence task force, in which we developed and launched three initiatives: Culture of Calm (which implemented several initiatives, such as restorative justice and in-school suspension, within 40 high schools), safe passage (which continues to exist and supports student safety through safe walking routes between gang boundaries), and wrap-around mentoring for 10,000 students most at risk of becoming victims of gun violence. We tracked considerable progress through these initiatives, with many high schools still utilizing the programs that we implemented across the school district. Our success was the direct result of focusing resources, utilizing proven intervention and restorative justice approaches, and collaborating regularly between CPD, CPS, local religious institutions, businesses, and community leaders, and several other city, county, and state agencies and organizations. 2. I held the position of Senior Advisor to CPS CEO Ron Huberman, in which I supported CEO Huberman in the management of the school district. 3. Lastly, I held the position of Deputy Procurement Officer, in which I managed $2 billion dollars in annual procurement spending. In this role, I led the revision of CPS’ board rules for procurement, I achieved significant cost savings in several categories through careful oversight, multi-year planning, and a strong collaboration with school leaders.
