As the elected President, I was responsible for the overall running of the society. The society runs a complex series of events which vary from social to educational. As president, I have worked to make sure that the society runs successful weekly activities such as the Herdman Lecture Series and various networking events, as well as, interspersed social events for all the department. I have also ensured great running of the annual Herdman Symposium and other events like the Herdman Ball and the Freshers Fieldtrip! I have been able to lead a committee of 14 to success and hopefully passed on the legacy of the role into capable hands.

I have helped out in different roles over the four years I have spent at the University. In first year, I worked in the accommodation department of the University helping students move in or showing potential students what Liverpool had to offer. In second year this changed to a more senior role where I helped with the running of the University of Liverpool freshers week, including helping students to network with their new course mates and flatmates. Over the past two years, I have worked closely with the Earth, Ocean and Ecological Sciences department on open days and applicant days. This role has included introducing potential students and their guardians to the University and the Herdman Society way of life, including an introductory talk.

As the elected Vice-President, I was put into a position of responsibility to ensure that the society was run to the best of it's ability over the academic year under the elected president at the time. The society has many committee members with many responsibilities, most of which, require organisation in tandem to achieve a successful result. As a Vice-President, it was my job to ensure that the committee were happy and if help was needed, to identify this before it became an issue to the wider society. This role, along with the President at the time, lead to a great centenary year for the society.

As one of two elected Symposium Secretaries, it was my role to plan, organize and run the annual Herdman Symposium in February 2018. The role entailed doing background investigation into current research in different fields of Geosciences and selecting a group of speakers from around the UK to give a lecture to an audience of over 300 people at the University. The event is the biggest that the Herdman undertakes and requires diligence and perseverance to make sure that the day is professional for the public and the speakers like. I had to be able to time manage and organize myself to the nail for most of the year, ensuring that the event was well planned.
