Bournemouth-Based Architectural Services: Concept Imagery, Planning drawings, and building regulation drawings.

Following 4 years of studying Architecture and Urban Planning, I was given the opportunity to apply my accumulated knowledge in a professional environment. Awarded a First (80%), the individual submission assessed my understanding of the planning system as well as the work completed within the project.The Role focused on research, analysis and a proposal for a Beds and Sheds development of Frome Gateway (a site identified by Bristol City Council for strategic mixed-use growth). In addition to supporting JLL's Planning and Development Team with other projects and participating in meetings regarding current projects and the emerging development of the planning systems.In response to the demand for sustainable land development, the Beds and Sheds concept co-locates residential and commercial/urban logistic uses in suitable locations. Through analysis of the planning risk, market factors and design constraints, the project aimed to assess whether a co-location approach is appropriate for a regional city such as Bristol. The project identified that while a Beds and Sheds model presents an opportunity to respond to local land use challenges and contribute to the desired neighbourhood as set out in Frome Gateways Spatial Framework, a Beds and Sheds model would require considerable compromise from both occupier types. Additionally, with an increased construction cost when compared to a traditional (separated) development, regional cities such as Bristol currently do not present enough demand for the model to be viable.

Following my first year at UWE, I participated in an internship with Arc Architecture. Within this experience, I was guided by James, Chris, and Bradley in producing a number of planning applications for residential projects. This insight into an architecture office familiarised me with both planning legislation and building regulations, as well as allowing me to develop my AutoCad skills.
