I am currently studying the changes in metabolic and biomechanical variables while running in "super" spikes compared to previous generations of track spikes. With this information, I hope to better inform performance footwear product design and help athletes reach their goals.

During my time at the Human Technology Integration team at Google, I designed and conducted research studies, including lab-based usability studies, field studies, and usability inspections. Once the data was collected, I collaborated with cross functional teams to define and prioritize research questions, ensure effective communication of research findings, and drive product improvements based on research findings.

I developed a wearable device to record equine limb accelerations while racing and training. The goal of this project was to use the captured data to develop a relationship between training stresses and injury for horses and then use the findings to create smarter training plans that prevent overuse injuries in racehorses. While working on this project, I have conducted in-depth scientific literature research, designed and executed validation testing for prototypes, and analyzed the collected data using Excel and Matlab.

As a mechanic and sales associate, my main focus during each day is to work with a team of 3 to 4 others to ensure customer's needs are met for repairs and purchasing cycling products. A majority of our work is centered on repairing and servicing all styles of bikes and learning over time how to solve increasingly complex mechanical problems. When not working in the shop, it is my responsibility to assist customers with finding the right bike or accessories for their needs.

While working at Sacramento State, I studied the discrepancy between measured joint angles when comparing body mounted IMU devices to infrared motion capture cameras. I used Vicon Nexus software to process the video captured by the cameras and create 3-D models of humans performing various movements. The goal of my work was to determine if the IMU units were a viable substitute for the motion capture cameras in a non laboratory setting.

My time at Performance bike was split between the sales floor and shop. I worked with customers to ensure they purchased the bike or cycling accessories that best suited their needs. While not on the sales floor, I worked in the repairs shop on a range of bicycles.

My responsibilities included fitting customers with the proper running/walking shoes for their needs, and answering questions about training and nutrition. Each customer has individual biomechanical needs based on their gait pattern, I learned how to analyze that pattern and find the proper pair of shoes for the customer. In order to provide a wide range of options for our clients, I would work with running shoe company representatives to learn about the materials, design, and production of running shoes.
