After my service in the US army I started in the steel industry when I was in my 20's from rod busting rebar for freeway construction to Ironworking erecting steel structures including wind towers. I then received employment through a Portland based cellular communication company (Lucent Technologies) and was responsible for cellular communication installation/removal in sub stations and main telecommunication switches. Unfortunately the company went under and paid us to receive schooling of our choice. I attended Clark community college where I passed all courses including blueprint reading and welding as well as general studies for the radiology prerequisites, However the grants ran out and I had to return to work to support myself. I received employment at a local plywood mill machine company (Spartek Industries) and started as a sawyer and ended up as a assembly technician/fabricator/installer. I was responsible for the fabrication and installation of plywood mill machinery as well as hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies 2008-9 hit and was victim of layoff. The next significant work experience was for a local truck and auto customizing shop(Nelson Trucking) I was hired as a fabricator/ installer and was responsible for fabricating any custom tool boxes and bed swaps/ pto and safety illumination on ODOT and other commercial bucket /lift trucks, the company moved out of state. I then received employment through Columbia Machine which has 2 divisions a concrete division and a palletizing division. I worked for both. I started on the concrete side assembling concrete block equipment and conveyor systems after a 1- 1/2 yrs transferred over to the palletizing division which I was responsible for assembly of many different palletizing machines and conveyor systems. Fabrication, welding/electrical/pneumatic and hydraulic, low volt sensors as well as running cables and wiring up main power panels. My wife's career had transferred her to another location with in our state and I followed. I received employment through Mason general hospital as a maintenance engineer 1. Responsible for daily rounds as well as PM scheduled jobs and reactive jobs. IE. steam generator blow downs, scheduled air handling filter changes, lighting replacement/installation, plumbing, nurse call repair etc.
