Growing up in rural south Florida, all I cared about was starting businesses. The most successful was a lawn care business. Many summers were spent in the sweltering heat cutting 3-acre yards with a push mower. The money was good, but it sucked. On to college at the University of Florida!Senior year I got a job cold-calling businesses to sell them natural gas. Little did I know how much that sales job would change the trajectory of my life.It turned into a very successful 15 year career at Infinite Energy. We grew the company to over $600 million in annual revenue.In 2014, I burned out. I left the company (with a 2 yr old at home).I spent 2 years in the Gainesville, FL, startup scene. I consulted, mentored entrepreneurs, and networked like crazy. Then I asked myself... What if we launched a company that helped college students learn how to sell (like I did in school). And what if companies hired us for entry-level sales support? In late 2016, The Selling Factory was born. The Selling Factory gave college students real world experience by working with real companies that have real sales expectations. By 2023, we had employed over 1,200 college students, helped nearly 200 companies worldwide, and turned it into a 7-figure business. I had 2 incredible business partners along the way.In Dec 2023, I saw an opportunity.The CADE Museum for Creativity and Invention was on a nationwide search for a new CEO. CADE’s brand is strong, and I visited the museum in Gainesville several times. However, I never worked for a non-profit and I certainly knew nothing about running a museum. Still, I was intrigued.Turns out Cade was looking for an entrepreneurial leader that had experience building and scaling. YAY…that’s me!For the first time in 20 years, I applied for a new job.Turns out I was a great fit for the role and started in April 2024. CADE is much more than a museum. CADE has a strong foundation, built by talented and passionate employees and supporters over past two decades. In honor of Dr. Robert Cade, the lead inventor of GATORADE, CADE’s mission is to transform communities by inspiring and equipping future inventors, entrepreneurs, and visionaries. Everything we do is through the lens of invention.
