Vice President, Platform Engineering Lead Automation Architect
I took a lead role in the Automation Engineering team where we developed a self service portal responsible for the full lifecycle management of compute resources in the bank. The portal covered approval and provisioning as well as migration and decommissioning of resources. It provided delivery of 2,500 virtual servers per month while managing things like redundancy, placement logic and load balancing. It was also able to do bare metal provisioning for servers within the bank. It managed the complete decommission process for both physical and virtual machines preventing things like orphaned servers or database within the bank.I was the lead architect for the backend automation processes and liaised with subject matter experts from different infrastructure teams to design the workflows to interact with their systems. Our customers were isolated from worrying about things like how to interact with storage systems and the build process as that was all taken care of by the workflows. As we were integrating with many disparate systems we needed to design for failure and allow simple troubleshooting and recovery when those failures occurred. I was also responsible for providing direction and guidance to other members of the team.I was also responsible for designing and developing a system to migrate all of the users from the Lehman desktops to Barclays desktops. This involved identifying applications required by each user and if all applications were available on the Barclays platform allowing the migration to be performed. It also involved prioritizing applications and users for migration as well as providing metrics for each team so they could understand how the migration was progressing.Technologies:⦁ Hewlett Packard Operations Orchestration⦁ ASP .NET⦁ SQL server⦁ VMware⦁ KVM⦁ OpenStack⦁ Cisco UCS⦁ IBM XIV⦁ ServiceNow
Vice President, Desktop Engineering And Tools
I was the lead architect with the Desktop Engineering and Tools team which was responsible for defining and managing the desktop standards globally. We were also responsible for the engineering of the software distribution process across the server and desktop windows infrastructure. My responsibilities included development of internal tools as well as evaluation and integration of vendor products within the solutions we provided. I worked hand in hand with the desktop support managers for the different regions and business areas as well as with the other members of the engineering teams globally. We were able to deliver many innovative solutions to manage 45,000 desktops. Our tools allowed the support staff and help desk team to manage and troubleshoot most facets of the environment remotely. Our software distribution processes and methodologies allowed us to deliver software updates on a regular basis while still maintaining a level of control to avoid costly downtime.Technologies:⦁ Microsoft Windows⦁ .NET⦁ Visual Basic⦁ SQL server⦁ Scripting⦁ MSI
