I have tried cases to verdict in both state and federal courts in Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia. I have also handled appeals to the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for both the Fourth and Sixth Circuits. I am experienced in litigating matters in arbitration and before various administrative agencies.My practice consists largely of providing advice to corporate clients and litigating labor, employment and workers’ compensation matters. I have drafted employment policies and procedures, provided counseling on immediate workforce issues, and conducted internal investigations. I have handled matters pending before the Ohio Civil Rights Administration, West Virginia Human Rights Commission, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, West Virginia Division of Labor, the United States Department of Labor, OSHA, NLRB, and actions in state and federal court. I also handle complex, high stakes, personal injury and property damage cases and insurance coverage issues. I've litigated construction claims, product liability claims, wrongful death claims, premises liability, breach of contract, employer intentional tort and deliberate intent claims, and even a case to enforce the result of a local election.In 2019, I was named to America’s Top 100 Civil Defense Litigators for the State of West Virginia. This lifetime honor is limited to 100 attorneys in the State of West Virginia and less than one half of one percent (0.5%) of litigation attorneys nationwide.In addition to practicing law, I have been a very active member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). I served several terms as chapter president, legislative officer, and board member of my local chapter. I also served as the statewide Legislative Director for West Virginia SHRM and as such organized “HR Day” at the West Virginia Capitol where SHRM members visit their state representatives to discuss pending legislation dealing with workplace issues. I issued statewide legislative alerts to SHRM members and prepared talking points and letters for members to send state legislators regarding HR related bills. I have written and presented topics on various labor and employment issues at seminars sponsored by my law firms, NBI, SHRM, and WorkForce West Virginia. I have also provided in house training to human resources professionals and insurance claims handlers.
