Consumer Orbit is a Consumer Sciences company that specializes in creating precise, customer-centric segmentations for marketing purposes. In a nutshell we take a client's actual sales information, including their known customers (if they know who their customers are), and combine it with our internal data in order to build a custom segmentation of the US consumers to allow them to easily reach prospective customers in the most efficient and accurate way possible.My role as Director of Consumer Sciences involves a few different roles. Primarily, I am in charge of the data transformation and cleaning side of the IT department. We deal in some very large data sets. So, when a business request comes in from the planning team, we need to be able to react quickly. This means that proper data cleaning, transformation, and storage is crucial. We use Alteryx as our primary data manipulation tool. As the main user of this product, it is my responsibility to solve any data issues we encounter.Secondly, I am in charge of creating a syndicated product using a Tableau front-end. The purpose of this product is allow our clients to interact with our data the same way that we do. This allows more transparency into our process and gives them valuable business information that they could not obtain through their internal IT efforts. Finally, I am in charge of improving the underlying data structure that we use to combine our data sets. We license a number of different data sets from trusted data aggregators in order to create the most complete and accurate picture possible of the American Consumer. Our unique value proposition is that we combine all of these disparate data sets together into a single data source that we call TotalView(tm). A portion of my job has been to improve this process by making it smarter, faster, and more accurate using advanced data manipulation techniques and sound statistical theory.

As a consultant, my role changes with every project. Primarily, I focus on business facing solutions and front-end tools. To complement this, I also perform training and demonstrations to prospective and existing clients. I also take part in the architecture discussions of new solutions and convey these technical architecture decisions to both technical and non-technical users. Lastly, I perform some of the more technical coding when necessary using SQL and/or DAX.My experience with front-end tools heavily focuses around reporting and dashboard design. This includes requirements gathering from the clients, brainstorming possible solutions, proposing recommended alternatives, and report creation. I have extensive experience with Tableau and Power View. I also typically train the business users in the appropriate usage of these tools along the way.In some cases, a client's source system will not contain all necessary information. Therefore, I have implemented multiple solutions utilizing Master Data Services to allow the users to maintain their own master data. These implementations require balancing the technical architecture needed to perform analysis, while also allowing ease of use for the business user.
