Primary Duties:- Develop the design and supporting calculations for HVAC systems supporting a national security critical facility. Calculations include airflow, heating and cooling loads, fan static pressure, and equipment sizing.- Originate Airflow Diagrams and Ventilation and Instrumentation Diagrams in support of the above mentioned system design.- Develop and write System Design Descriptions for use by Plant Operations. These are written to fully document the intended functions of each HVAC system.- Interfaced with the Plant Design discipline regularly to determine duct routing, sizing, and in-line component locations to minimize pressure losses and potential interferences with other commodities.Significant Accomplishments:- Originated a first-of-a-kind System Design Description the entire HVAC discipline is using as the go-to template for the rest of the $6.5 billion facility.- Recognized as one of the few engineers who completed their system design before the Preliminary Design Review deadline.

Watts Bar Nuclear Plant Construction Completion Project, Spring City, Tn

Primary Duties:- Verified, analyzed, and approved as-built conditions documented in Field Change Requests. Rolled up associated paperwork and served as the final engineering quality-control barrier for construction.- Performed walk downs of various plant systems, including the reactor cooling, ice condenser, auxiliary feed water, and Fukushima modification systems.- Performed stress analyses for Category I Seismic conduit and conduit supports.- Represented the Engineering Closure Group (30+ engineers) by managing and presenting the Field Change Request closure P6 schedule to senior-level Bechtel and TVA management.- Drafted design change approval drawings for incorporation into master engineering drawings using AutoCAD.- Wrote work orders to correct construction deficiencies. Regularly interfaced with craft personnel to provide guidance.Significant Accomplishments:- Performed final analyses and paperwork roll-up for turnover of the reactor cooling system from designengineering to startup engineering on time and with a 100% quality control acceptance rate.- Participated on a team that analyzed all containment building penetrations for adequate flood, fire, and radiation protection. Changed several seals that could have lead to significant safety issues.- Participated on the team to support the first Hot Functional Test of a nuclear plant in the United States since 1996.

- Performed hazards analyses (specifically fire, explosion, and toxic atmospheric dispersion) and prevention for various proposed and operating nuclear and fossil power plants in the United States, South Korea, and Egypt – commonly with the goal of protecting personnel/environmental health and ensuring safe operation of the power plants.- Conducted in-depth siting studies for mPower Small Modular Reactors using ESRI’s ArcGIS software to apply various siting criteria, such as water availability, flooding risk, terrain factors, wetlands disturbance, and several others.- Interfaced regularly with clients and subcontractors via Requests for Information (RFIs) to ensure a quality engineering product is produced.- Origination and issuance of nuclear licensing packages with the ultimate goal of obtaining a Combined Operating License (COL) for various utilities.Significant Accomplishments:- Participated on a team that successfully obtained the first Combined Operating and Construction License (COL) for a new nuclear power plant in 20 years.- Played a key role in licensing the Vogtle Nuclear Power Plant’s dry spent fuel storage installation via hazards and site analysis.- Identified and resolved a serious explosion hazard at the Dominion North Anna Unit 3 Nuclear Plant.- Co-authored a technical paper which was presented at the 21st International Conference on Nuclear Engineering. The paper was given the Bechtel Outstanding Technical Paper Award for 2013.- Authored a section of the Safety Analysis Report for the North Anna Unit 3 operating license.
