As a Trailblazer at Tennessee Tech, we play a significant role in the recruitment of new students. When prospective students (typically in their junior or senior year of high school) schedule a visit to Tech, they get a personal tour guide from a student to make it all more personal. These students are Trailblazers, selected after an interview process by the Campus Events and Visits Coordinator, who serves under the Office of Admissions. As a Trailblazer I give tours to families and students and show them all the resources Tech has to offer, while also telling personal accounts of my time as a student!

I was one of eighteen students selected to be a Student Orientation Assistants (SOA) over the summer for Tennessee Tech University. One must apply and go through an interview process and eventually selected by the Director and Coordinator of New Student and Family Programs (the university office that runs freshman orientation) for this role. SOA's are one of the most crucial pieces to our freshman orientation (known as SOAR) as we become freshman students first face and line of contact to the university, aside from faculty. We interact with, lead, and guide our students throughout SOAR and their time at Tech, and this is demonstrated throughout many roles we fill over the summer of SOAR sessions.
