As a contractor with Global eTraining, I have two main areas of expertise. I record audio narration for their online courses, which means providing both the vocal talent and the technical skill to create, edit, polish, and prepare the audio files for uploading. I also edit video demonstrations done by subject matter experts for insertion into the courses.

Brattberg Enterprises is an educational group managing eight career colleges in Alberta, as well as an online training division. My responsibilities ranged from coordinating advertising placements to creating videos for social media, but mainly focused on messaging.

Digital School is a division of Brattberg Enterprises, specializing in computer-aided drafting training. As Assistant Manager, I was responsible for working with the instructors, admissions advisors, student supports, and reception/admins to ensure everyone was on the same page, maintaining a positive approach and outlook, and following upper management’s vision.

Academy of Learning is a division of Brattberg Enterprises, with seven locations around Alberta. I started in Red Deer, and moved to fill the admissions desk at both Calgary locations, as well. The Admissions Advisor’s role is to respond to inquiries, book appointments, meet with the interested parties, assess their goals and qualifications, help them find the right program for career training, assist them through the funding application process, and ensure they are ready to start when their program begins.This required both sales and service expertise: deep understanding of the products offered; careful listening to the applicants to understand not only what they wanted to accomplish, but also how ready they are in order to give them the best advice; expertise in the various funding options (private, aboriginal, options for the unemployed and underemployed, standard Student Aid). The position required training and demonstrable competence with government standards and systems including the Alberta Works MOBIUS system, as well as FOIP and PIPA privacy regulations.

Central Alberta Truss provided roofing and flooring structural systems to builders and contractors around Alberta. As a designer, I was responsible for reading blueprints to determine the architectural design of a building, and, using proprietary design software, creating the structural skeleton of the roofing and flooring systems to support it according to building code standards.

Convergys was the contracted telephone customer service provider for AT&T Mobile out of the U.S. The agents were required to be familiar with numerous models of cell phones, cell phone plans, and complex systems for billing and records. I was quickly promoted from a front-line agent to a next-level resolution agent, and eventually to training other agents, both new hires and experienced.

BUSINESS CENTRAL magazine was a local business publication that started as RED DEER COMMERCE in 1983. I joined the company in 1987 as a page layout technician, working with the earliest desktop publishing software and hardware.Over the years I developed my skills in a number of areas, until I served as Editor. In that position, my job responsibilities included: ad sales, writing, photography, community outreach, minor IT services, and plunging the toilets if need be.An example of my work on the 2000s would be: travelling to a Central Alberta community, such as Lacombe, or Wetaskiwin, and developing a feature section that would appear in the magazine, as well as be reprinted for the town to distribute for promotional purposes. I would pound the pavement selling all the ads, interview everyone from the mayor to the local baker, take the pictures, write the stories, and deliver the final product once it was printed. Interestingly, by that point in my career, the only thing I wasn't doing was the page layout, as we had a skilled graphic artist handling that by then.
