After initial training at Information Warfare Training Command - Groton, I reported to my first submarine as a System Administrator. Combined with continuous on the job training, and stringent Naval network requirements, I played a key part in turning around shipboard information assurance and network security programs and eventually led a division of 3 people into having the most compliant network in the Submarine fleet. From there, I took on the role of Leading Petty Officer and got meritoriously advanced to First Class Petty Officer with just over 3 years of active duty service. At this point, I am our leading technician for both corrective and preventative maintenance, as well as troubleshooting. Being on submarines requires a unique skillset, that requires me to learn my job as well as portions as everyone else's jobs. It also provides the unique circumstances of having to troubleshoot at sea with no support, meaning a lot of issues that have been necessary to address and troubleshoot have been done without outside support.
