Specialist Corporate Governance

In this role I oversaw the corporate governance activities for both the global equity portfolio -- a portfolio that represented more than 4000 corporate holdings. APG is one of Europe’s largest providers of pension fund management servicesI developed among others APG's proxy voting policy and was responsible for vote execution on all holdings and contacts with (sub)custodians and proxy advisory firms. In addition I served as a key member of the governance team that actively engaged on a variety of governance issues with the Boards of Directors at companies where APG held a large investment position. A focus point was also the integration of corporate governance into APG’s investment process. This included providing a governance opinion on new investments, identifying governance issues that could affect investee companies and joining portfolio managers in their ongoing company engagements. Other responsibilities included: - The integration of corporate governance into non-listed asset classes, including reviewing Term sheets and Memorandum of Understanding; - Supervising APG’s corporate governance activities in Asia, including governance research projects for portfolio managers, company dialogues and policy interventions and representing APG at the Asian Corporate Governance Association; - Supervising trainees and interns, including designing a corporate governance– compliance traineeship program and organising APG internships designed to interest highly qualified students in the field of corporate governance.
