I worked in sales and management at Massage Envy for four years (2013-2017). After getting introduced to professional facials my acneic skin improved. I was inspired by a clinical retail skincare brand we sold in the spa. I felt the line wasn't effective for people of all colors. I've wanted to have my own skincare line since I was 19. I took some time to learn about clinical aromatherapy before establishing Pore People. In 2015, a sensory assault incident I experienced from a designer lotion was the last straw for me. The fragrance in the formula caused my skin to become red, raw, and inflamed. I vowed to myself to never take another product from the shelves without understanding of what each ingredient in the product's list was. I had experience with making home remedy concoctions for skin care. In the past I made face masks by smashing avocados and stirring in lemon juice and honey. Those applications worked for me and I knew I wanted my line to be completely all-natural with zero fillers. I was introduced to all-natural skin care products at an early age. My father worked for the Burt's Bees company in the late 90's and would bring home items from batches he'd made. I knew I wanted to produce items like those formulas when I created my line.
